Marco's Saikyo Dojo: Cammy Breakdown

Welcome back to your next lesson here at the Saikyo Dojo! If this is your first time here we’re taking a look at the character roster to see who fits with your play style. Last time around we took a look at Ryu. Next up is Delta Red’s very best, Cammy.

Cammy
Height: 5’4”
Weight: 134 lbs
Job/Affiliation: Delta Red
Likes: Cats

Cammy’s mission is to dismantle Shadowloo due to the fact that she use to be part of the evil organization as the brainwashed assassin Killer Bee. Cammy’s training in Shadowloo & Delta Red has honed her like a powerful but precise sniper rifle. If the rushdown glass cannon style up your alley then Cammy is your character! Let’s check out what she can do.

Advantages: High mobility with decent power & combo potential for rushdown opportunities. Footsie game is strong & Cammy’s V-Trigger allows her specials to add more hits for more combo damage.

Disadvantages: Low health, V-Trigger quickly disappears within two specials once activated.

Unique Moves

  • Knee Bullet: A two hit leaping knee attack. Used to start combos.
  • Lift Upper: A close range uppercut used for anti air purposes.
  • Lift Combination: A two hit target combo that starts with Lift Upper then launches the opponent for an opportunity to end with a Cannon Spike.

V-Skill

  • Axel Spin Knuckle: Formerly used as a special move command to move past fireball projectiles, this hop spinning backfist is used for more of her offensive capabilities. Now she’s able to cross up your opponent for mixup possibilities.

V-Reversal

  • Strike Back: This V-Reversal causes Cammy to move behind her opponent and counter attack. Can be used to put Cammy in a better position if cornered.

V-Trigger

  • Delta Drive: When Cammy’s V-Trigger is activated her specials are buffed & can combo into each other(ie. Spiral Arrow will link to Cannon Spike). Activate when you want to get the life lead or to win the round.

Special Moves

  • Spiral Arrow: A thrusting spinning kick that darts towards your opponent. Ex version can pass through projectiles while V-Triggered Spiral Arrow can be linked into another special.
  • Cannon Spike: Cammy’s Cannon Spike is a jumping thrust kick used as an anti air. Can also be used to end combos as it deals more damage but make sure you can hit confirm first otherwise you’ll be left wide open.
  • Cannon Strike: A diving kick only able to be performed when jumping, this move is used to put the pressure on the opponent regardless if they are blocking or hits as you perform a combo. Varying the timing of performing the Cannon Strike can confuse the opponent with your different jump arcs. Ex & V-Trigger versions can put the opponent in a juggle state ready for another attack.
  • Hooligan Combination: A small jumping flip that provides you with four different options to attack depending if you press any button combination listed below:

  1. Lazer Edge Slicer: No input will allow Cammy to perform a sliding kick attack. Has Ex version.
  2. Fatal Leg Twister: Pressing both light attacks when you’re close to the opponent’s legs
  3. Cross Scissors Pressure: Pressing both light attacks when you’re close to the opponent’s head.
  4. Cannon Strike: Pressing any kick attack will perform a Cannon Strike. Has Ex version.

Critical Art

  • Cross Stinger Assault: Cammy’s Critical Art starts from the wall and activates if the opponent gets hit. Looks like Spider Man’s Maximum Spider super from Marvel vs Capcom. Can pass through projectiles & can also be used as a combo ender to deal more damage.

My Thoughts on Cammy: Since Cammy came onto the scene in Super Street Fighter II, I was always impressed how much damage she could do if the player did her justice. With SFV being more of a rushdown game, Cammy is one of the characters that excels in this avenue. My gameplan when I play as Cammy is to be precise by going in dealing damage & elusive to frustrate the opponent with footsies as they try to chase Cammy down.

And there’s my take on Cammy! Let me know what you think on the comments below. Hope you come back for the next lesson as we take a look at one of the newer characters, Necalli!
